As one of the "biggest displays" in London, Merton Council is sad to announce the cancellation of this year's firework displays.

Based annually in Morden and Wimbledon Park, the event has been cancelled due to concerns around the pandemic.

A council spokesman said: “Due to the concerns about the potential spread of Covid-19 in large crowds, the Council has taken the difficult decision to cancel its Bonfire Night fireworks displays.

"The council is extremely disappointed to cancel these popular community events, which have enabled residents to safely enjoy fireworks for more than half a century.

"Merton Council has blazed the trail in local authority-run fireworks displays since it held one of the very first events for Guy Fawkes Night in 1969.

"Aimed at eradicating accidents and incidents from back garden firework displays, the Council’s two annual events grew to become among the biggest in London.

"We very much hope to return in 2021."
