Members of the public have been invited to have their say on plans to redevelop a shopping centre.

The proposals for Edmonton Green Shopping Centre include new homes and public spaces, redesigned streets and better links with the local area.

Built in the 1960s and 70s, Edmonton Green is home to more than 120 shops and an indoor market.

Crosstree Real Estate Partners, which bought the site in 2018, has unveiled plans to modernise it and create what it calls “a sustainable local town centre for local people”.

The developer wants to build a mixture of family homes and smaller properties, both for sale and to rent – including affordable housing.

It plans to create public squares, communal gardens and landscaped streets, which would be designed to reduce anti-social behaviour.

Further proposed changes include joining up Edmonton Green with Fore Street, improving pedestrian routes through the shopping centre and minimising “back-of-house areas”.

A new market building would be created in the centre of the main square to form the heart of the development.

Crosstree claims Edmonton Green “will remain an affordable local shopping centre, catering to the needs of the local community”.

Matt Mason, partner at Crosstree Real Estate Partners, said: “Edmonton Green shopping centre is a local hub for the community that has a lot of potential and we are keen to help fulfil this.

“During the past year we have been engaging with local communities to understand what is important to them, how we can improve the centre and how they would like it to look in the future. We are now able to share our emerging plans and would really like to hear people’s feedback which will then help inform the next phase of design.”

The developer hopes to hold a face-to-face consultation event before the plans are submitted to Enfield Council later this year.
