Police have released CCTV footage of a wanted man after he pulled a handgun from his belt and aimed it at a shop worker as he robbed a store in Plumstead Common.

Detectives investigating the armed robbery are appealing for information and help identifying the man, believed to be in his 40s.

CCTV caught him entering a shop in Plumstead Common on Saturday, July 18, around 5:50am.

In the video, he grabs items which appear to be cans of beer from the shelves and makes for the door without paying.

When confronted by a shop worker, the man pulls handgun from his belt and points it at the victim.

He walks out of the shop and makes his way off down Plumstead Common Road, keeping the gun raised.

The victim was uninjured in the attack, but police are keen to identify and locate the man responsible.

Detective Constable Thomas Boow, from the Flying Squad, called it a "terrifying ordeal" for the victim, caused by a man "who clearly has no respect for the law."

"Carrying a gun in your waist belt is an incredibly dangerous act, let alone brandishing it in a public place, aimed at another person.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen this man running off or was in or near the shop at the time. It is important we identify him to make sure he does not do something like this again.”
