A CAFÉ that has been in business for more than 20 years now has something else to celebrate other than an anniversary because they have won the title of 'Trader of the Week'.

The Old Bakehouse Café in Ulverston has been run by owner Pamela Bayliss and is a hotspot for many of her regulars who just keep coming back for her traditional cooking.

The 51-year-old said: "We were looking to celebrate our 20th with a party next month but now we are looking for something else to do instead.

"We have a breakfast and a lunch menu with six to eight specials on each day.

"We have been shutting earlier recently as people are leaving the town around half two at the moment and there are less people in the area in general because of coronavirus.

"I had to replace three tables with smaller ones to accommodate for the new guidelines which means I have lost 10 seats.

"When you are only open for a few hours this does make a difference.

"I can still survive off my regulars though. I love them all to bits, they are like my family."

Mrs Bayliss has a real passion for cooking and is the main cook in the café, skills she learned at catering college in Accrington around 30 years ago.

She moved to the area at the age of 20 and started worked as a cook in the café she would later go on to own when it became available.

"I do all the cooking," the mother-of -two said.

"Since I took over here though the amount of places doing food has increased and suddenly there is a lot of competition in Ulverston.

"It is nice to see that people care about us here and it really is appreciated to be nominated for this award.

"I would like to say thanks to all the girls that work with me who have all virtually been here since the very beginning.

"They are all brilliant.

"I would like to say thank you to my husband Paul as well as he helps me a lot.

"Finally, a big thank you to all my regulars for all their support."

Her regulars are so well loved by this café owner that she made sure to deliver food parcels to the more vulnerable of them during the lockdown when she took on a role at Co-op in Ulverston.

The food at The Old Bakehouse is traditional with a cooked breakfasts and toasties for the morning, and cottage pie is just one of the options to choose from for lunch. It is something that keeps bringing many of her customers back time after time.
