A 27-year-old man has been arrested after a standoff with police in Barnehurst, late last night.

Residents reported seeing several police vehicles and ambulances parked along Erith Road before midnight on Sunday (August 9), with many reporting a police helicopter circling overhead.

It was reported that a man had climbed onto the roof of a building, claiming he had a gun in his pocket and would shoot.

Officers confronted the man and were able to bring him down from the building and arrest him, with no reported injuries.

Both armed police and the ambulance service were called to the scene as a precaution.

The man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and remained in custody.

Police confirmed no weapon was found after the incident.
