A man suffered serious injuries to his pelvis after he was rammed and crushed by the driver of a car in Croydon after an alleged dispute turned violent last month.

Officers from the Met Police launched an investigation into the incident on Saturday (August 1), which they said happened in the early moments of Tuesday, July 21.

Two men including the victim were on Whitehorse Road in Croydon when an "altercation" occurred between them and another person inside a car described as a beige Mini Clubman.

After a while, the two friends got in their car and drove off, but realized before long that the Mini in question was following them.

A police spokesperson described what happened next:

"The victim and his friend pulled over to confront the driver of the Mini, at which point the man is reported to have driven at both men.

"The car hit the victim and crushed him against his van.

"As a result of the collision the man sustained serious pelvic injuries and still remains in hospital."

Appealing for witnesses, the Met's DC Angharad Morgan described the incident as "totally unacceptable".

"It is unclear what led to the altercation between the victim’s friend and the man driving the Mini.

"However, this disagreement escalated to serious violence that is totally unacceptable and resulted in significant injuries for one of the men," he said.

"Although this happened in the early hours of the morning, this incident took place on a busy stretch of road near to a carwash.

"Did you witness anything out of the ordinary or see the collision itself? Did you see a beige Mini Clubman leaving the scene?

"Likewise, I would ask anyone who may have driven along this stretch of road in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, 21 July to check their dashcam for any footage of this incident.

"Any information that you can provide could be key to our investigation."
