Three Merton libraries are set to reopen next week with new social distancing measures in place, the authority has confirmed.

Wimbledon, Mitcham and Colliers Wood are set to reopen with reduced opening hours on Monday, July 13.

The libraries will see a phased return, offering a click and collect service and a limited number of computers available through a pre-booking service.

A series of strict measures have been introduced, including arrangements for returned books to be stored separately for 72 hours.

Further safety measures in place, include:

-Revised opening hours of Monday - Friday 10am - 6pm and Saturday 10am - 4pm

-Perspex screens at customer counters

-Children's computers remain closed

-Social distancing queue systems

-Separate queues for Click and Collect and PC bookings

-Book return options outside of the library entrance

-Increased cleaning of all library facilities including cleaning of computers after every customer use

-Printing services will be available however, residents will be unable to photocopy at this time.

-Customers will need to show their library membership card, anyone who requires a new one will need to inform the library beforehand and bring appropriate identification

Click and Collect Service

The service will allow customers to collect items after the libraries have confirmed the items are ready.

When collecting books, customers will be asked to queue outside, 2 metres apart as indicated by floor markers.

Books can be ordered online, through the Merton Libraries App or by phoning and emailing the libraries.

Book Returns

During library opening hours, customers can return books by placing them on the returns table/bin/trolley located near the entrance to the library.

Books can also be returned through book box drops outside; West Barnes, Raynes Park, Colliers Wood, Wimbledon and Mitcham libraries, whilst the libraries are closed.

Loan items which people have kept during lockdown have had their return dates extended until September 1, 2020.

Public Computers

Public computers can be booked online, by telephone or at one of the open libraries in advance.

Bookings are for a maximum of a single one hour slot per adult library member, per day.

Customers are asked to arrive 5 minutes before their scheduled time- if late, the booking will be cancelled.

We await updates for the reopening of Morden Library, Pollard's Hill Library, Raynes Park Library and West Barnes Library.
