A teenager has been arrested at a Lewisham address over a website offering fraudulent tax refunds, the Metropolitan Police has said.
The force said they had received a report in April stating a website had been set up with the sole purpose of obtaining bank details from members of the public, and was fraudulently offering tax refunds.
Detectives from the Met's Cyber Crime Unit confirmed on Wednesday, July 1, that an 18-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of fraudulently offering tax refunds from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
On Tuesday, June 30, officers executed a search warrant at a residential address in Lewisham.
A Met Police spokesperson said: "An 18-year-old man was arrested at the address on suspicion of fraud by false representation.
"He was taken to a south London police station and interviewed. He has since been released under investigation pending further inquiries."
