Orpington’s MP Gareth Bacon has called for constituents to nominate local heroes who have stepped up during the coronavirus crisis so their good work can be recognised and celebrated.

“Since this crisis started, so many people across the Orpington constituency have stepped up to help others and it’s never been more important for us to celebrate those special people in our community,” Mr Bacon said on Tuesday.

“That’s why I am calling for constituents to get in touch and nominate a local hero.”

Mr Bacon, who is also a councillor for Bexley and sits on the London Assembly, said constituents can nominate any individual, group, or business who has volunteered their time to help their local community during the pandemic.

“I hope this can be an opportunity for us all to pause and recognise the good work of Orpington’s local heroes, without whom, this challenging time would have undoubtedly been harder for so many,” he said.

“If you know a special someone who deserves commendation for stepping up and helping others during this crisis, please get in touch and nominate them. I will make sure that Orpington’s local heroes are celebrated.”

Thousands of people volunteered to help during the pandemic in council-co-ordinated initiatives across the boroughs of Bromley and Bexley.

Orpington residents are invited to email their nominations to gareth.bacon.mp@parliament.uk if they wish to make a nomination.

Nominations must include a name, address and contact details, the name of your nominee, their address, and contact details, and the reason why you are nominating that person, group, or business, and, if possible, it should include a photograph of your nominee.

Nominations close on June 30.
