A footpath which runs close to a campsite could be moved and upgraded to a bridleway.

Hertsmere Borough Council has published proposals to divert and upgrade a path which runs between Shenley and Borehamwood, close to Well End.

Currently, a path, known as 'footpath 3', goes across land used by Hertfordshire Scouts and through the Well End Activity Centre, off Well End Road.

Members of the public are free to use this path but only on foot.

The new proposals would see this footpath closed and a new one created which runs parallel to London Road/Well End Road.

This new path would be a bridleway, allowing horseriders and cyclists to use it, but cyclists would have to give way to pedestrians and horses.

The path would also take away the need of walking down London Road, which has no pavement.

The council says public notices about the order to divert the footpath have been put up at the entrances to the footpath as well as the usual places like on its social media channels, in the newspaper, and at its offices.

Copies of the proposals have also been sent to landowners, occupiers, and any interested groups.

Anyone wanting to make a comment on the plans should email local.plan@hertsmere.gov.uk by July 6.

The council will consider any responses and then decide whether to proceed with the proposals or make any amendments.

If the council goes ahead with the diversion, there will be another 28 day period for the public to make comments.

Footpath diversions are complex and have to undergo a strict legal process - it can sometimes take months or years to complete.
