McDonald's has reopened 33 restaurants for drive-through customers, with large queues reported across south London despite a limited menu and £25 per car cap.
Following trials and new safety procedures being implemented, the fast food giant is reopening 39 Drive-Thru lanes at restaurants across "as we continue to test our plans for reopening."
The sites, primarily in south-east England, opened at from 11am on Wednesday and are offering a limited menu with orders capped at £25 per car, the fast food chain said.
McDonald's say they expect "high demand across all locations," and temas are still adjusting to the new procedures introduced to enable safe working and social distancing.
The chain is also working closely with local authorities to determine whether it will be necessary to close any of the Drive-Thru lanes "if queues cause disruption or put employees or customers at risk."
Contactless payments are being encouraged, staff will be temperature checked before each shift and the number of workers on each site will be reduced to ensure social distancing, bosses added.
Perspex screens are installed at all drive-through windows and staff will be given protective equipment, the company said.
On top of six stores in Peterborough, in south east London the McDonald's site in Welling is the main option, opening as a Delivery and Drive-Through.
In the south-west of the capital, stores have reopened in Sutton and North Cheam as drive-through only.
The store in Tooting is also open for delivery.
It comes after rival Subway reopened all 600 stores in the UK for delivery and takeaway last week, along with openings from Burger King, Pret A Manger and Wagamama, among others.
