The number of roadworks in Brent was among the highest in London over the past three years.

Research conducted by Little Loans showed there were 29,205 cases of roadworks in the borough between 2016 and 2019.

This was the seventh highest in the capital and the second highest in north-west London after Barnet.

Bromley, Westminster and Merton made up the top three in London during this time period.

Of those that replied to Freedom of Information requests on the subject, Islington saw the lowest number of roadwork cases with just 461.

Harrow had 17,883 between 2016 and 2019, which put it in 14th place.

The data showed there were 11,344 cases in Brent in 2016/17 – this fell to 7,942 a year later before jumping to 9,919 in 2018/19.

Brent Council’s cabinet recently approved plans to spend £3 million on a road improvement works as part of the South Kilburn regeneration scheme.

This is part of its £10 million Highways Infrastructure Funding grant handed out by the Greater London Authority last year.

Chip Radoslavov, head of content at Little Loans, said: “There’s no denying that roadworks are an annoyance for drivers and motorists, with lane restrictions and road closures negatively affecting the length, speed and enjoyment of a journey.

“However, in the long term, most of these roadworks are carried out to reduce overall journey times, and make for safer, more efficient driving.”
