Bromley has become the latest London borough to surpass 1,000 confirmed coronavirus cases, the most recent figures from Public Health England show.

The new statistics show that of the 24,828 cases of Covid-19 across London as of Monday morning, 1,086 of those are found in Bromley.

Neighbouring Croydon has the most cases in London with 1,388, while Lewisham has 927, Greenwich 640, and Bexley 634.

Bromley is the sixth London borough to record 1,000 confirmed cases or more according to PHE’s figures.

It’s also the sixth-most populous borough within Greater London with 331,096 residents living within its borders as of mid-2018.

It comes as the NHS trust which administers Bromley’s hospitals recorded 432 deaths attributed to Covid-19.

The King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust includes Princess Royal University Hospital, Orpington Hospital, Beckenham Beacon, and Queen Mary’s Hospital, as well the King’s College Hospital in Camberwell.

As of Sunday May 3, the Trust had recorded 432 deaths – with all south-east London trusts recording a combined 796 deaths so far from the pandemic.

An Army-manned testing centre within the borough, set up at the Norman Park car park, was due to start operating from Friday.

It comes after the Government expanded the criteria for those eligible to be tested to include care home residents and staff, people over 65 and anyone who cannot work at home, alongside health workers and those in hospital.

Residents who want to check their eligiblity and book a test can visit the Government’s Covid-19 website at https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus
