Amid the current coronavirus pandemic, pockets of local residents in London have been making themselves busy for the benefit of those most in need of support.

In spite of and inspired by the crisis, people have been volunteering, setting up mutual aid groups and delivering food and medicine to anyone who needs it.

Community aid is likely to become increasingly important alongside more official responses as the virus undoubtedly spreads, reaching 1,221 cases in London today, so for those that would like to help out, we've looked at the best ways to get involved locally.

Your first port of call if you have any free time or resources and would like to help in Greenwich should be the local council.

Starting from last week, Greenwich Council have been collecting all willing volunteers to help support the local authority's response to Covid 19.

The aim is to get all those wanting to help in one place in order to coordinate a community response and effectively support those in need.

Lewisham Council have followed suit, working with Lewisham Local, Voluntary Services Lewisham and Age UK Lewisham & Southwark to coordinate a response so that we can help the most vulnerable in local communities.

The response will focus on providing accurate, up-to-date information, delivering food and other items and vulnerable people, social isolation support, and support for those looking to volunteer.
