A woman from Welling has launched a petition to bring back ration books in a bid to stop people from stockpiling during the coronavirus outbreak.

Jodie Hunt, 40, is petitioning for Boris Johnson to call on councils across the UK, to issue ration books to every household.

The 40-year-old started the petition after becoming increasingly worried about the elderly and those at high risk.

Jodie believes this simple act could help put a stop to those suffering from the ‘madness’ and allow people to resume their normal food shop.

Jodie Hunt spoke to News Shopper on her reasoning behind the petition: “I was fed up of going to the supermarket and seeing selfish people stockpiling food and essential cleaning products.

“I just thought bringing back the ration book idea would stop this.

“Some people say that you can still order online, but good luck trying to get a slot!

“Maybe the ration book idea won’t be needed now supermarkets are limiting what can be bought.

“But they can’t stop people from re-entering and buying more.

“It’s the greed of these people that prompted me to start this.

“Hopefully we can remember to show some respect to everyone- especially those that are working in the public sector and retail."
