A note saying a family in a Deptford tower block tested positive for coronavirus has prompted a clean by Lewisham Homes.

The note, posted in Eddystone Tower block, said it was from a family who wanted to alert people to the situation.

“We have been told to self-isolate but living in our flat here we are finding this impossible to do and are having to leave our flat throughout the day.

“We will try our best to leave and return to the building when no one is about,” it read.

The family tested positive on March 13, according to the note.

Lewisham’s cabinet member for housing Cllr Paul Bell said he was “aware” of the poster.

“We do not know anything about the household, but as a safety measure, Lewisham Homes has been cleaning communal areas,” he tweeted.

A spokesperson for Lewisham Homes said although it could not confirm any cases it has to accept that it is a “matter of time” before they begin to emerge in its accommodation.

He said: “We are aware somebody has placed a sign about a case of coronavirus in Eddystone Tower.

“We have not been contacted directly by anyone in the building so cannot confirm If this is true or not, however we have to accept that it is a matter of time until cases appear in our buildings.

“Our caretaking teams have increased their cleaning of entranceways and lifts to help reduce the spread of infection.

“Our focus remains on protecting the health and wellbeing of our residents and staff.

“We are reminding residents to follow the NHS advice on hygiene and self-isolation and are providing updates frequently through our website and social media channels.”
