Lewisham Council has cancelled all public meetings on Government advice.
A spokesperson said the council is doing its “utmost for public safety”.
It comes after the Prime Minister significantly ramped up measures to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic, telling people to avoid mass gatherings, to work from home where possible, and anyone who has the virus, potentially has it, or lives with either of the two, should self-isolate for 14 days.
People over the age of 70, or those with a pre-existing condition, will be told to stay at home for 12 weeks from this weekend to keep them safe.
Boris Johnson told everyone to avoid the pub, theatres, and non-essential travel.
NHS England has also announced that all non-urgent operations would be put on hold for three months as hospitals try to free up beds.
