A PROGRAMME that supports start-up pioneers is about to begin its seventh year.

There were more than 85 applicants to the Central Research Laboratory, based at the Old Vinyl Factory in Blyth Road, Hayes.

A panel of 15 mentors and experts selected six finalists, who will take part in an intensive programme over the next six months, focusing on product development and design, growth strategy and investor readiness.

Start-up ideas include supporting children with ADHD, helping athletes recover faster and a tool that allows even the se verily disabled to paint.

Each will be given a £5,000 grant for prototyping and testing, as well as the opportunity to meet with experts in their sector.

Support for the scheme comes from the European Regional Development Fund.
