The sixth forms with the best A-level results have been revealed.

When ranking all Essex schools by the percentage of students who achieved AAB grades or higher (in at least two facilitating subjects) in 2018-19, Colchester Royal Grammar School came out on top.

67.2 per cent of students at the state-funded school achieved the top grades.

Facilitating A-level subjects are ones that are commonly needed for entry to leading universities. They are: biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, further mathematics, geography, history, English literature and classical or modern languages.

King Edward VI Grammar School in Chelmsford, Colchester County High School for Girls, and Chelmsford County High School for Girls followed behind.

The next best was Davenant Foundation School in Loughton, where 15.2 per cent of students achieved AAB.
