LAWYERS acting for broadcaster and naturalist Chris Packham have written to the Transport Secretary, calling for an immediate halt to all environmentally damaging works by HS2 until its future is decided.
Packham joined campaigners last month on a Walk for Wildlife and Water through Denham Country Park, which is under threat from HS2.
His concerns about the ongoing work are set out in a ‘pre-action letter’ sent to Grant Shapps by Leigh Day solicitors, on his behalf.
The letter asks for an urgent response by Monday and, if the Transport Secretary refuses to halt work, Packham will consider seeking an injunction.
He is currently crowd-sourcing evidence of damage by the HS2 clearance work and is calling for people to send him photos.
Packham is particularly concerned at the threat to the rare wetlands in Denham Country Park and the important woodland and habitats that are home to rare bats and butterflies.
