Pupils at a Wandsworth primary school featured on BBC Newsround last week as part of a special news report about classroom technology.

Beatrix Potter Primary School in Earlsfield was chosen to take part in the BBC programme to mark the start of Bett – the world’s largest education show which kicked off in London on January 22. The filming was organised by Bett and Discovery Education, who work with the school to provide technology and digital resources for lessons.

Phil Birchinall, Discovery Education’s senior director of immersive content said: “Beatrix Potter Primary are pioneers when it comes to new technology.

This Is Local London:

"One of the first schools to use augmented and virtual reality, they are passionate about how it can inspire pupils and deepen their learning.

"Filming with BBC Newsround was a great experience for the children. They were very excited to see themselves on screen.”

Spending time with a Year 5 class, the BBC Newsround crew filmed pupils in a Roman history lesson.

Using immersive learning resources to transport them back in time, the children wore special virtual reality headsets to ‘walk along’ Hadrian’s Wall in the snow.

They also experimented with augmented reality – which brings 2D images to life - to ‘meet’ a Roman soldier and the Celtic Queen Boudica in spectacular 3D.

At the end of the lesson, the pupils were interviewed about why they enjoy using new technology and how it makes lessons exciting.

The BBC Newsround piece was broadcast on Monday 20th January which you can view here.
