Bexley Council has joined other boroughs in creating a scheme aiming to help provide housing for homeless households.

The Capital Letters scheme aims to increase the supply of rented properties to homeless households and improve current housing options for residents.

Capital Letters works with landlords to increase the supply of homes from the private rented sector.

The service aims to lower the disruption to homeless people on the councils waiting list by placing them as nearby as possible.

A spokesperson for Bexley Council said: “Bexley faces the same difficult housing challenges as the rest of London.

“We are constantly looking at new ways of working and this includes supporting and developing innovative initiatives like Capital Letters.

“Being part of Capital Letters is another way for us to help address housing pressures for local people and to mitigate future temporary accommodation costs.

“We joined forces with 13 other London Boroughs last year to establish ‘Capital Letters’.

“The joint initiative allows us to procure additional affordable private rented properties on behalf of Bexley and the other participating boroughs. "

“This initiative is supported by £38m of Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government grant funding.”
