A former head teacher and councillor has appeared in court charged with incident assault against an underage boy.
Keith Tait, 75, of North Mill Place Halstead, who represented the Shelley ward for 36 years from 1977 until 2013 has been charged with six counts.
He attended a hearing at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court in connection to alleged offences dating back to the late 1980s on Wednesday, January 8.
The alleged offences date back to the late 1980s against a teenager under the age of 16.
He denied the charges and no formal plea was entered.
Tait was also chair and vice-chairman for Ongar Town Council.
He was given unconditional bail and is due to appear for a plea hearing at Chelmsford Crown Court on Wednesday, February 5.
