This building was once a landmark for people in Waltham Forest - but what is there today.

Epping Forest Guardian:

It was replaced by the Old Town Hall, in Orford Road, Walthamstow, in 1866. The building, which is described as Italianate but looks like some French town halls, was listed in 1985. Here is a photo of it in 2019.

The clothing looks Edwardian, and the building in the background may even be the Old Town Hall - then slightly newer.

In the foreground, one sign for a private bar advertises Bass & Co.'s Pale Ale, another is for A Saunders, Chemist, while there is a haircutting and shaving salon and a post and telegraph office further along the street.

Here is the same scene in Walthamstow Village in 2019. Estate agents, delicatessens, tapas. The world has changed.
