Aspiring young councillors are being called to stand in the next youth council election.

Those aged between 12 and 17 will represent young people in the district by becoming a member of the Epping Forest Youth Council.

The youth council is made up of 25 young people with the aim to make a difference for young people on issues that matter to them.

Successful candidates will work on the issues affecting young people at the Epping Forest Health and Wellbeing Youth Conference.

Councillor Nigel Bedford, portfolio holder for community & partnerships, said: “If you’re aged 12 to 17, care about what happens in your local community and want to give a voice to our district’s young people, apply now.”

“Young people are the future of democracy and our youth election 2020 is a great opportunity for them to represent their views on the issues which matter to them most.

“Not only will they learn about local democracy, be involved in exciting projects and make new friends, they will have lots of fun too.”

Closing date for nominations is Friday, February 21.

Elections in schools and colleges take place from Monday, March 9 to Friday, March 20.
