TV presenter Chris Packham will join campaigners on Sunday (29) as they Stand for the Trees and take part in a Walk for Wildlife and Water through Denham Country Park, which is under threat from HS2.

Last week, Mr Packham, on behalf of the #RethinkHS2 alliance of environmental groups, presented a petition in Downing Street calling on the Government to #ReThinkHS2.

Describing the threat, he said: “[It’s] catastrophic - the largest de-forestation process we’ve undertaken in the UK since the First World War, at a time when we know we should be reforesting the environment, not taking it down.

“If you cut these woods down. you cannot rebuild them by sticking in a few saplings. Let’s stand for the trees!”

The walk will set off from Denham Station and culminate outside the Blackford Pumping Station.

HS2 Ltd applied to the Environment Agency in September to stop extracting water at Blackford until April 2025, to re-route supply from Watford further upstream and prepare for bulk water transfers from Thames Water.

Sarah Green, HS2 campaigner and wildlife protector said: “People need to be made aware of the horrendous impact on our water at the hands of HS2.

“If people knew what was actually happening, there would be an outcry and this project would have to be stopped.”
