April began with a weekend of violence after five people were stabbed in Enfield in just four days. A lone knifeman stabbed four people in 15 hours within a quarter of a mile radius in Edmonton, and soon after another man was stabbed by an attacker. Several of the victims were left with life-threatening injuries. Police warned the public to stay vigilant.

A music festival in Trent Park was given the green light despite fears over noise and crime. Neighbours warned the park and surrounding infrastructure could not cope with large crowds. Elrow Town, scheduled to take place in August, was allowed to go ahead after the applicant insisted that safety concerns had been addressed.

Tottenham Hotspur’s new 62,062 capacity stadium opened its doors for its first Premier League game. The club had been playing at Wembley Stadium since May 2017 while the new multi-purpose venue was being built.

And the fight against changes to bin collections continued as thousands of people signed a petition against the cuts. Proposed changes would see black bins collected every two weeks in a bid to save money. Helen Mitchell, who set up the petition, said: “It is not a luxury – it is a necessity.”
