A moped rider threatened a man with a large hunting knife and stole his £75,000 watch.

The frightening incident happened on Uphill Road, Barnet at around 5.15pm on October 30 last year.

Zuriel Hutson, 24, rode up to the victim, a 47-year-old man, and demanded his Robert Mille watch, mobile phone and wallet as he threatened him at knife-point.

Hutson, who was with an unknown passenger, then rode off.

After the victim contacted police, he found a mobile phone close to where the robbery had taken place.

The phone was examined by police and it led officers to Hutson and Leila Shannon, 19.

Hutson, of Alexander Road, north London, has been jailed for 10 years at Harrow Crown Court on Thursday (December 12). Jurors unanimously found him guilty of robbery and possession of a weapon on July 17.

Shannon, of Aubert Park, pleaded guilty to assisting Hutson. She was given a 10 month sentence, suspended for two years. She was also ordered to pay a £140 victim surcharge.

Police said Shannon had allowed Hutson to hide in her premises as police searched for him. She also helped hide the moped and knife used in the robbery.

Hutson was arrested on November 14 last year at a property in Alexander Road, Islington. Shannon was also at the address and was arrested.

The watch has not been recovered.

Police Sergeant Callum Rodgers, of Operation Venice, said: “This was a terrifying robbery by a ruthless offender who targeted his victim and threatened serious violence to rob the man of his watch.

“Detectives worked quickly to identify Hutson, and he was tracked down with two weeks of the incident. In harbouring an offender and helping Hutson evade the authorities and hiding evidence, Shannon made a grave mistake and she now has a criminal record to her name.

“Operation Venice team are active across London every day, identifying criminals using mopeds to commit crime and keeping Londoners safe.”

The passenger involved in the robbery has yet not been identified. Enquiries continue, police said.
