A man who was charged after a police officer was hit by a car has denied charges.

Ricky Johnson, 32, also known as Ricky Preddie, of Anerley, south-east London, was arrested on November 12 after a police officer who was hit by the car at Windermere Avenue, Wembley, on November 6.

Police attempted to stop a black Alfa Romeo with tinted windows before the car went into reverse and hit a police car.

PC Natalia Trzeciak was getting out of the police car as the Alfa Romeo reversed into the passenger door, trapping her by the neck.

The driver then sped off, leaving PC Trzeciak with an injured neck and punctured leg which required stitching.

Johnson was charged with dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and unlawful wounding, but he pleaded not guilty to all three counts at Harrow Crown Court today (December 11).

The court heard how PC Trzeciak feared for her life after the crash.

Judge Rosa Dean said: “This is a very serious allegation. The officer thought she was going to die.”

The officer was attended at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. At an earlier hearing in Willesden Magistrate’s Court, prosecutors revealed that she did suffer permanent scarring.

Prosecutor Sarah Gabay said: “The officer’s neck got trapped between the car and the passenger door and the other officers heard her cry out in pain.”

Jean Dean said that Johnson would be remanded in custody until his trial, which is set for May 11, 2020 at Harrow Crown Court.
