A zoology student will have enough to cover the bear necessities of university life after receiving an excellence scholarship.

Tina Bhadresa, from Harrow, was received a cheque of £3,500. Tina is a former pupil of Capel Manor College, Enfield, and is now studying zoology with animal behaviour at Bangor University.

Overall, 124 awards totalling almost £290,000 were awarded to new first year students at Bangor University. The majority were receiving scholarship awards after excelling in the university’s own entrance scholarship exams, or for their high academic achievement in their A-level exams or equivalent.

Amanda Smith, marketing manager at the university, said: “Our scholarship awards mean that we’re able to recognise and reward those who either excel in our entrance scholarship exams, or achieve the highest academic attainment upon entry. We're really keen to attract the best calibre students to Bangor University and to support those students as far as possible.”

Bangor University was ranked in the top 10 in the UK for student satisfaction and has over £3.4 million in bursaries and scholarships available for new and returning students in September 2020.
