Plans to bulldoze garages to make way for a block of 83 flats are underway after being approved by the council.

Waltham Forest Council granted permission for the L-shaped part 10-storey part 12-storey block in Brunner Road, Walthamstow, at a planning committee meeting last week.

The development will be comprised of 50 per cent affordable housing, 37 units in total, 20 of which will be available for social rent and 17 for shared ownership.

A health facility will be built on the ground floor offering GP services, a minor injuries unit, Phlebotomy, sexual health, extended scope physiotherapy, musculoskeletal care, and midwifery.

The proposed health hub would replace the existing nearby St James Health Centre.

The development will be delivered by council-owned company, Sixty Bricks.

As part of the planning process, Sixty Bricks will contribute £100,000 towards the refurbishment of playgrounds at St James Park and Coppermill Park.

A further £150,000 will be granted towards the “renewal and improvement of the public realm environment” within the St James quarter and Brunner road, £92,042 will be contributed towards a carbon offset fund, and £100,000 towards the installation and monitoring of three CCTV cameras.

The site is currently host to four single-storey industrial units, one of which is vacant and the others house car repair and light industry garages.
