Council staff have donated a "staggering" amount of groceries to foodbanks in the run up to Christmas.

Employees at Hertsmere Borough Council were encouraged to donate goods to those in need during the season of goodwill.

Hundreds of items ranging from tinned food, pasta, breakfast cereals and biscuits to festive mince pies and chocolates, are being delivered by staff to foodbanks in Borehamwood and Potters Bar.

Borehamwood Times:

Sajida Bijle, interim managing director for Hertsmere Borough Council, said: "As a council, we work hard to try to support people and work with other organisations to help families with financial issues within our community.

"I was so proud of the amount of food donated during the collections. Our staff donated a staggering amount of food and household items to these two Ffodbanks.

"They are a credit to the council. We hope the donations go some way to helping those people in real need this Christmas."
