A man was killed in a crash between a lorry and a car in Merton this morning.
Emergency services descended on the scene of the crash near the junction between Morden Road and Jubilee Way shortly before 5am.
Officers confirmed the driver of the car died at the scene, but that no arrests had been made.
As of 9.45am, motorists were advised to avoid the A24 Morden to South Wimbledon, and there have been reports of significant delays on St Helier Avenue, Abbotsbury Road, London Road, and Morden Road.
A short statement from Merton fire brigade read: "Crews from Wimbledon and Mitcham attended this tragic incident this morning. Our thoughts are with all those involved and affected."
A Met Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called at 4.53am on November 21 to Morden Road/ Jubilee Way, Merton, following a road traffic collision involving a lorry and a car.
"Officers attended with London's Air Ambulance.
"The driver of the car, a man aged in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are working to inform his next of kin.
"The lorry driver was not arrested.
"Officers remain at the scene.
"Road closures are in place and motorists are advised to use alternative routes."
