Sombre and moving services were held across the district commemorating the centenary of Remembrance Day was held on the weekend.

Hundreds of residents joined the annual parade held in Loughton with the town’s Royal British Legion Headquarters at Church Hill leading the procession.

Representatives from Churches Together in Loughton, the Air Cadets, Scouts, Guides, ex-service men, women and councillors attended on Sunday, November 10.

Town Mayor, Councillor Stella Murphy, led the tributes at the War Memorial on Kings Green followed by the two minutes silence marking the end of the First World War.

Crosses with poppies were laid in honour of fallen Loughton soldiers.

Loughton town Councillor Stephen Murray said: “As always a very moving service and act of remembrance here jointly organised by the Loughton Town Council.

“Royal British Legion Branch and conducted by the Churches Together in Loughton.

“Great to see so many young people in attendance, keeping this important act of community reflection/remembrance going.”

Epping Forest District Council Chairman Cllr Richard Bassett also attended several services between Friday, November 8 and Sunday, November 10.

Services were held at including the Commonwealth War Graves in Epping Cemetery, St John the Bapist Church in Epping, Nazeing and North Weald Airfield.

Epping Pipe Band led the service through Epping High Street to the town’s memorial on the morning of Remembrance Sunday.

Cllr Bassett later Tweeted: “Very humbling to take the salute and a wonderful sight to see all the cadets and everyone marching Epping Town Hall.

“After a service of remembrance in St Johns Church we popped into Hemnall Sports and social club to meet with the Epping Pipe Band who were entertaining everyone with a wide selection of pipe music. Really enjoyable.”
