A motorcyclist in his twenties is in critical condition after a crash with a car in Lee Green.
The smash happened at the busy junction between Burnt Ash Road and Lee High Road just after 11.30am.
Police, ambulances, an air ambulance and the London Fire Brigade were all called to the scene.
A woman who was stopped in her car by police a short distance away has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop at the scene of a collision.
She is said to have been taken to a south London police station for questioning.
A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed: “We were called today (11 November) at 11:28am to reports of a road traffic collision on Eltham Road in Lee.
“We sent an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and a medic in a car to the scene. We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance.
“We treated a man for head injuries at the scene and took him to a major trauma centre by road.”
The area has been cordoned off and Scotland Yard has warned drivers to avoid the area.
