A high street has been gifted a new padlocked bin to help tackle litter near a popular chicken shop.
Harrow Council, in partnership with contractor JB Riney and local traders, provided Sam’s Chicken, in High Street, Wealdstone, with the new 1,100 litre bin.
It comes after bags of rubbish from the takeaway piled up on the pavement, which encouraged others to add to the heap.
Businesses on the street spotted the problem and the issue was raised on community Facebook group #Fixit Harrow Network.
A spokesman for Harrow Council said: “We are grateful for the joint efforts and partnership with the community, local businesses, and JB Riney to help keep Wealdstone tidy.
“Excess waste has been an ongoing issue for this area – and we too want to see these issues resolved.
“We will continue to monitor the area and take the necessary actions against anyone blighting our streets.”
He added that shops have been given trade waste bags to help contain rubbish and more businesses have signed up to the council’s trade waste collection service.
