An officer was dismissed after being tested positive for controlled drugs.

Police Constable Barry Hayes, based at the North West Basic Command Unity (NW-CU), has been dismissed on October 11 following a Special Case Hearing.

PC Hayes was found breaching ‘discreditable conduct’ based on the Home Office guidance on standards of professional behaviour.

On May 29, 2019, PC Hayes was subjected to a drugs test and was found positive with the use of controlled drugs.

The Chair found the allegations of drug abuse as gross misconduct. PC Hayes was found to have breached the Standards of Professional Behaviour as set out in Regulation 3 and the Schedule to the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2012 in respect of Discreditable Conduct.

PC Hayes was then dismissed without notice.
