The community is invited to join in celebrations to usher in the Hindu new year.
On Monday, October 28, the year 2076 of the lunar Hindu calendar will begin with prayers for peace and prosperity across the world.
Worshippers at Chigwell Hindu Temple are opening their doors for their celebration of the biggest day in the Hindu calendar.
From 12pm – 8pm the temple will be awash with the sweet smells of traditional Indian street food and snacks.

Visitors to the Mandir – Hindu temple – will be able to see the Annakut, a mountain of food that is prepared as a thanks to God for his providence over the year past and the year to come.
More than 500 varieties of pure vegetarian food will be artistically arranged to create the culinary structure.
Worshippers will also be celebrating Diwali, a four-day festival of lights (October 25 – 29).
Diwali symbolises the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.
