FANS, friends and former neighbours attended the unveiling on Saturday of a commemorative Ealing Civic Society plaque on the wall of 38 Jordan Road, Perivale.

It marks the childhood home of keyboard player Nicky Hopkins (1944-94).

The ceremony was performed by his widow Moira, who is pictured with the Mayor of Ealing, Cllr Abdullah Gulaid, along with John Wood, who has led the campaign for recognition of Hopkins' life and work.

The event was hosted by the current occupants of the house, Tom and Illona Carroll.

Classically-trained Nicky Hopkins is already remembered in nearby Perivale Park with a memorial bench commissioned by Mr Wood in September 2018.

The next stage in his campaign is to have the keyboard player admitted to the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

Hopkins was a noted session player whose work appeared on recordings by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Jefferson Airplane, Jeff Beck, Steve Miller, Donovan and many more.

Early in his career, he was a regular performer at the Ealing Blues Club. Following his recovery in 1963 from a long illness, Hopkins became a sought-after session player.
