More than 100 primary school children were treated to a performance by a beatboxing choral scholar.
Children aged between 7 and 11 from Essex schools spent the day at Chigwell School for this year’s Prep and Primary Music Festival.
Sessions were led by Chigwell School’s music professionals, including former students who returned to share their expertise.
The professionals included James Botcher, choral lay clerk at York Minster, who led percussion coaching and performed his beatboxing, and Rhea Gupta, Clare College Cambridge choral scholar who encouraged the children to compose original music.
The children took part in a variety of workshops including music technology, songwriting, orchestral coaching and introductions to string instruments such as violin.
Howard Ebden, director of music, said he was pleased with how harmoniously the day’s events blended together.
The event gave the children the opportunity to try a new instrument and learn more about music as well as allowing them to take part in a celebratory concert in the afternoon.
At the end of the concert, the children performed as a choir and sang the Julian Lennon song Saltwater and This is the Greatest Show from the film The Greatest Showman.
