Rubbish was left strewn across a street after black bin rounds were missed for three weeks.

Neighbours in Newport Close, Enfield Lock, had to put up with the unhygienic conditions because cars parked at the entrance to the cul-de-sac stopped Enfield Council’s waste wagons from getting through.

But one resident, Sinasi Aydemir, said the council could have come up with another way of ensuring bins were collected.

Mr Aydemir said: “We can’t store rubbish bags in our houses, so we put them by the side of the road. Everyone has 10 to 15 bags now.

“A fox came in the night and made a mess – now I can’t let my son play in front of my house.

“Some people park their cars at the entrance, half on the pavement and half on the road. They leave their cars and walk to the train station.

“I’ve spoken to a few of them, but some of them are so rude. They say ‘I can park where I want to’.

“Maybe the waste lorry driver did not want to risk scratching the cars.”

Mr Aydemir said he had complained to the council every week but had not received a response.

He added that even though there were problems accessing the street, the council could have made alternative arrangements.

He said: “The binmen could pull the wheelie bins out and collect them, or they could tell us to leave the bins at the end of the road.

“Something needs to be done, but the council just ignore it.

An Enfield Council spokesperson said: “We are aware there have been access issues that have prevented our waste collection trucks from entering the road.

“The cars blocking the entrance are parked legally, but we will be looking at ways we can mitigate this issue.

“In the meantime, we have made arrangements for a smaller vehicle to complete the weekly refuse collections.”
