The Zoological Society of London have set up a crowdfunding campaign to raise enough money to study hedgehogs in Barnes and surrounding areas.
Around 106 cameras have been set up across various sites in Putney Lower Commons, Roehampton golf course and Palewell Common.
Chris Carbone a Spokesperson for ZSL said: "One of the biggest problems is that London’s remaining hedgehogs are becoming isolated from each other and our understanding of where remaining hedgehogs live is poor.
The Zoological Society of London will cover areas across south-west London in a bid to know more about hedgehogs.
"We need to identify population strongholds so we can target the limited resources we have on improvements like building hedgehog highways, calming road traffic in key areas and restoring habitats where they are found."
The cameras will help ZSL to understand where the hedgehog population resides and any money raised will help the ZSL to understand when and how hedgehogs move around south-west London and to figure out any potential threats to hedgehog population.
The ZSL also believe that tracking the movement of hedgehogs is a vital tool which can help to increase the population of hedgehogs in a healthy way.
