Purley will be covered in purple again this month to help raise awareness of a local cancer centre.

Paint Purley Purple, run by Purley based South East Cancer Help Centre (SECHC), is calling on local shops, businesses, schools, organisations and residents to hold purple-themed cancer fundraising events or activities throughout October.

Their fundraising team of volunteers will be collecting at Tesco with a new Spin To Win wheel most Fridays and Saturdays this month.

SECHC Chairman, Jennifer Mollett said “Last year it was great to see people smiling at the yarn bombing and hear school children explaining to their families and friends why SECHC had turned the trees purple.

"As we receive no government funding events like this are our life blood and it is a great way for local people to support their local charity whilst having fun.

"We are hoping to see everyone wear a splash of purple during the month and I am hoping to meet as many people as possible at the events being held.”

SECHC Fundraiser Natalie Mulcahy said: “Get as many of your friends and family as possible to come along to one of our events and help fundraise whilst enjoying a night out!"

The Centre, which has local NHS recognition, offers bereavement, family, telephone and individual counselling sessions and support groups for people suffering specific types of cancer.

Massage, hypnotherapy, reiki, aromatherapy, and reflexology therapies are also available as well as activities such as yoga, Tai Chi, drama, relaxation, and arts & crafts.
