A NANNY from West Drayton has been awarded £20,000 in compensation from a dentist after a tooth extraction went wrong.

Katarzyna Solinska, 32, suffered permanent nerve damage and will now have to live with numbness on the left side of her mouth for the rest of her life.

She visited Samuel Mattine at Care Dental Smile Studios in Hounslow between December 2015 and January 2016.

“I thought the extraction itself went well,” she said. “I had an injection and the tooth seemed to come out without much fuss. Initially I was happy because the pain had gone, but then I began to realise something wasn’t right.”

The first symptom she experienced was being unable to open her mouth more than one or two centimetres. Then, she began to notice numbness to the left of her tongue.

“At the time, I was a teaching assistant,” said Mrs Solinska. “I wasn’t able to speak properly, which made addressing a class of children really difficult.”

She complained to the dentist but was told the feeling might take six months to return and that she should just be patient.

Eventually, she saw a specialist, who informed her she had nerve damage and that the numbness would indeed be permanent.

The Dental Law Partnership took on Mrs Solinska’s case in 2016 and the case was settled this year when the dentist paid £20,000 in an out-of-court settlement. He did not admit liability.
