STUDENTS in Year 11 at St Benedict’s in Ealing have come up with a set of ideas to help make the school as eco-friendly as possible.

They want to exploit St Benedict’s expansive roof space and to see the installation of solar panels.

They are also proposing a roof garden, with each class looking after its own raised bed, and an annual St Benedict’s plant show.

Reusable water bottles, more water refill stations and a move towards reduction of paper use by submitting all homework online are also proposed.

Head teacher Andrew Johnson said: “Concern for the environment must be at the heart of the school.”

The initiative follows the recent establishment of a new eco-society at St Benedict's, Ecocentric, and an Environment Day.
