The developer of a huge housing scheme in Watford has revealed talks are ongoing to provide a new doctors surgery for the area.

Berkeley Homes says a local GP surgery is "keen" to expand and move into space within its proposed scheme in St Albans Road.

The surgery would retain its existing site and also create a new GP.

Watford Borough Council is currently considering plans for 1,214 flats on the site of The Range and TK Maxx, near Watford Junction - including a 27-storey tower.

The proposals also include plans for a primary school and nursery, and Berkeley Homes has provided a first look at what the new school could look like.

It would be four storeys, with rooftop outdoor space - similar to St John's primary school in Clarendon Road which opened in September last year.

Daniel Massie, pre-development director for Berkeley homes, said: "As we move towards the planning application coming in front of Watford's planning committee, our aim is to kick start the transformation of the Watford Junction area with high-quality design, sustainability and placemaking not seen before in Watford.

"It will have long lasting benefits for the whole community.

"Following the council's formal consultation, we are focusing on showing there is real substance behind the proposed infrastructure for the local community to see. We are delighted that we have had very positive discussions with a local GP surgery, who is keen to move into space within the new scheme.

"The proposed primary school is also moving forward and this new image shows how the detailed design of the school will work over four storeys."
