A suspected explosion forced residents to evacuate from their homes last night in Hampton Hill.

London Fire Brigade tweeted just after 8pm last night (September 18).

They said: "Firefighters have been dealing with a fire & suspected explosion at the rear of end of terrace shop & homes on High Street, Hampton Hill.

"30 residents have been evacuated.

"Part of the High Street & Windmill Road currently closed."

One witness on Twitter said: Explosion on Hampton Hill High Street. Blew the roof off - onto residents car (ours).

"Wall flown off of kitchen extension. Extension is being removed 2.40am

"Residents are not allowed to be in the flat over night."

Richmond Council has tweeted this morning. 

They said: "[UPDATE] Due to a fire last night in #HamptonHill part of the High Street & Windmill Road is currently closed. Expected to reopen later this morning. Traffic likely to be heavy."
