Blackfen School for Girls in Sidcup has won a whopping £1.8million to fund new teaching accommodation to replace decades-old buildings.

The cash came from the Government’s Improvement Fund and will be used to replace three temporary buildings, one of which dates back to the 1970s.

Purpose built classrooms will now be introduced for staff and students and business manager of the school, Gary Morgan, described the funding as "fantastic".

He added: "We have limped along with these buildings for too long and now have the opportunity to provide the kind of accommodation that everyone at Blackfen deserves.

"Our heartfelt thanks go to the team at Ingleton Wood who have patiently supported the school with this project and will now take it into the next stages."

Sam Taylor, an associate and building surveyor at Ingleton Wood, added: "Bids for projects can be anything from £25,000 to around £4m.

"These projects vary from small roof replacements to entirely new teaching blocks, building repair or replacement and include anything from health and safety, mechanical and electrical work, asbestos removal and safeguarding.

"We work in the education market and have excellent knowledge of the funding system and, by operating on a no-win no-fee basis, we keep the good will of our customers who return to us for our expertise again and again."
