WELCOME to Durham!  If you’re a new student and have just arrived, it’s time to get to know the city that will be your home for the next few years – it’s quirky, unique, and definitely different from any other city!

We’d recommend you get to know the city’s independent businesses – supporting these businesses means that you’re supporting the city, its people, and its future.

Whilst you are here, you are very much part of our City. You are one of its people, and you can play your part in our future.

Durham Market Hall is home to 45 independent businesses, with an extensive range of products on sale.  We have fresh food and drink, including wines, beers and spirits, and takeaway pizzas, and pies!

You can also find batteries, duvet covers, vintage clothes, trolley bags, and clingfilm. Yes, it’s well worth exploring the stalls – there’s too much to tell you about here!

Also, we have Durham’s best-established phone repair business, the place to get t-shirts and sweatshirts printed and personalised, and somewhere to get spare keys cut!

More than that – the WiFi is free in Café Cenno, home to some of Durham’s best scones and great Full English breakfasts.  Look for the coupon and enjoy a free cuppa with your breakfast!

We’re easy to find.  Follow the entrance ramp leading down from the Market Place.  The Market Hall is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 4.30pm, with the addition, in the Market Place, of our regular Outdoor Market each Saturday, and the Farmers’ and Producers’ Market on the third Thursday of each month.

Don’t miss our monthly Full Moon Street Food Markets – the next one is on Friday, October 18, from 4pm to 9pm.  These are perfect for post-lectures snacks, or the start to a memorable Friday night out.

We believe you’ll enjoy Durham more if you discover and support everything that makes Durham unique – why not start with a trip into the Market Hall?
