A Banstead retailer is bucking the trend of trepidation in business with massive expansion for customers in the area.

Despite the swirling uncertainty surrounding Brexit and the threat of a dangerous 'no-deal' exit, Chandlers Building Supplies, based at Station House, Banstead Road, has invested more than £1m to refurbish and expand its retail outlets in the area.

The suppliers have also increased their range of stock in Banstead by more than 50 percent.

The drive for expansion is being led in part by Angela Straker, a Banstead mum, took over the branch last year.

Challenging the status quo in the male-dominated industry, Ms Straker was recently nominated for two prestigious industry awards for her commitment and knowledge of the sector.

"I just love the construction industry," Ms Straker said.

"At this stage in my career, I feel I know what Banstead builders require for pretty much any building project they undertake.

"I am delighted to have been able to expand our offering here in Banstead and hope the local tradespeople will come and see the changes we’ve made," she added.

Sue McKinney also of Chandlers Building Supplies, agreed.

She suggested that the expansion is in response to demand in the area for their supplies — something that might prove to be a boon for the region's economy.

"Our customers require a wide range of roofing and building supplies on a daily basis, they also often rely on the advice that our branch manager and building specialists can share with them.

"We have strong indications that expanding our offering locally in Banstead is exactly what local tradespeople want and need," she said.

The Banstead store is running free trade demo days from September 9, including free breakfast, with giveaways and promotions on offer.
